MUSIC

SOUNDTRACKS FOR YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

"The earth has its music for those who will listen;
Its bright variations forever abound.
With all of the wonders that God has bequeathed us,
There’s nothing that thrills like the magic of sound."
- Reginald Holmes

I'm a big music fan. And I'm a big nature fan. And that means I love listening to music in the great outdoors.

Now I'm sure lots of people will disagree with me - many will say that nature and music shouldn't mix. And while I sometimes enjoy being silent in nature and listening to what the world has to say, sometimes I like to elevate nature's effects with music. Listening to music helps me to be closer to nature and closer to myself. It's not traditional; but assuming it's respectful, then it's transformational.

I'm also a massive music nerd, which means my music is organised into Spotify playlists for specific vibes and settings. (No, you're a perfectionist.) So please feel free to browse, enjoy and elevate your time in nature.

I built my collection by noting down the music that others have introduced to me. So if there are any tunes that you love to listen to in nature, I'd love to hear about them! Drop me an email or send me a message on Instagram.

ADVENTURE TIME

Adventuresome tunes to complement your natural rendezvous. A mix of upbeat and chill with a tribal feel, and just enough bass to keep you grooving in the wilderness.

Good for: hikes, paddleboading, road trips, sunsets, sitting around the campfire.

CORNISH COAST

Put your towel down on the beach and get your speaker out: this is for chilling out/maxing/relaxing all cool. A mix of indie and Majestic Casual type beats, with a South West flavour.

Good for: hot weather, driving along the coast, trips to the beach, poolside lounging

TWILIGHT CRUISING

I like this one when I'm driving back from my adventure at the end of the day. Deep house and soft techno. Reflective and relaxing, like stretching after a good walk.

Good for: driving at dusk, motorway journeys, studying & concentration

CAVE RAVE

You know that scene in Matrix Reloaded where they're all raving underground while someone is smashing the big drums? This is that kind of vibe - tribal techno house. Get down and dirty.

Good for: running, gymming, raving, anything that gets your blood pumping

MISTER SUNSHINE

All day bangers to get you in the mood for sunny weather. Old school classics with some newer house-y tracks. High energy, feel good, bumpin' boogie bass.

Good for: raucous picnics, driving with the windows down, wishing you were in Ibiza

SHINRINYOKU

This means 'forest bathing' in Japanese. These are very chilled, vaguely mystical tunes that you can play in the forest: or play them anywhere else to bring the calmness of the forest to you.

Good for: studying, yoga, meditation, walking around the forest and imagining you are surrounded by fairies

(If Spotify web player not working, click link below)

STARGAZING

When you stare up at the clear night sky, you'll see the same stars that our ancestors once gazed at. But they didn't have these beats. Mostly electronic, all existential.

Good for: looking at the stars and feeling very small, campfires, late night driving

CAMPFIRE

Go on, chuck another log on. You don't get to do this every day after all. This playlists has all kinds of music that sounds better around a crackling fire, preferably with good company.

Good for: chatting, drinking, dancing around a fire; also good for afterparties (in which case no fires!)
